Reminded today of our search for slow mornings, hidden cafes off main drags, old books that called out your name, plants that reached out to you between the stones of tumbling walls, unexpected conversations on Scottish trains, and all sunsets that asked nothing of us.

I think about Cherry often, and just this evening was revisiting my notes from one of our coaching sessions. It felt like she gave me yet another gift of wisdom, rereading her words, and I always think of her as a guiding light along my creative path. Cherry taught me to love making art again, and in essence helped me reclaim my life force. I am sorry Paul that she left this world too soon. Please know she is missed and held dear in my heart always.

Cherry's earlier series of paintings of the hills above town where we walked Yogi each day. The gates are still there, and although much else has changed, the recurrent theme of environmental degradation remains.

Dreamt of you for the first time - and woke with a smile

Cherry helped me immensely in my creative journey, and I am so sad to hear of her passing. She helped me grow confidence in my creativity and discover my own process. She was always flexible, open, compassionate, kind, and supportive. I had the privilege to talk with her almost daily for years on coach.me, and I take her lessons with me daily. She helped me transition from school to career, from rules of a program to what works for me, from complete writer’s block to writing/creating while feeling empowered (and helped me find ways to work through other creative blocks)…I am very grateful to have known her. In fact, I take her lessons and help students of my own with their creative path too. Even when she got ill and took time away from coach.me, she made time to check in on me and my progress. I loved seeing her art, and her views on art were just really special and have greatly affected my own views — that art is not something to control but instead to allow discovery, play, and your own self in not just the product but also the process.

And when the time comes— step back, hands off, and let the garden grow without you.

Sadly we never met Cherry but Paul has become a good friend and in memory of your wonderful relationship I send blessings 🙏🏼🩷

This candle is lit to mark the ending of ceremonies, the farewell of friends and family and the first steps to cautiously move forward. Her ashes now live beside me, and her stories - wrapped up in tracing paper - are wound around my broken heart. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Cherry and Paul stayed with us a few times when they were on their frequent travels. They were always welcome and good fun. We stayed with them when we were in Loja, Spain and it was a lovely time. Running with their beloved `yogi and mixing with their village friends. It's a mark of their personalities that our neighbours, when they stayed with us, still asked about them long after they left. I feel that if everybody could have some of Cherry's qualities the world would be a better place. We were glad to stay with Cherry, Paul and Warren for a few days recently and after seeing Cherry one last time, I was reminded of a line from a Van Morrison song "Coney Island" and I imagined Paul with Cherry in that lovely room overlooking Torquay harbour. The words are: "I look a the sight of your face as the sunlight comes streaming through the window in the autumn sunshine." Send Paul your messages and dont be a stranger. Cherry demands it!!!
